Diagnostic Services

Sometimes it takes more than a visual exam to diagnose what’s happening in a pet’s body.  That’s where our diagnostic services can help. With the in-house laboratory at Double Oak Mountain Animal Hospital, we can test for parasites, blood abnormalities, infectious diseases, organ function, and more.

Our goal during diagnostic testing is to keep you and your pet as comfortable and stress-free as possible, and we know that a speedy diagnosis can play a huge role in that! Having in-house diagnostics available means your pet can receive the testing and answers they need quickly and without hassle.

In-House Lab Tests

At Double Oak Mountain Animal Hospital, we have a complete laboratory where we routinely perform a wide variety of tests and diagnostic services.

Full Blood Panels and Tests

Bloodwork is a primary way to discover information about your pet’s health that you may not have otherwise known. A blood panel will identify your pet’s hormone levels, electrolyte levels, kidney/liver function, and more.

A blood panel includes a CBC (complete blood count), which quantifies the level of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in a given about of blood. A CBC test can also reveal any abnormal clotting factors, low blood oxygen levels, and anemia.

Blood tests also help screen your pet for the presence of heartworm disease, which can result in lung disease, heart failure, and organ damage if not identified and treated in its early stages.

Urinalysis and Fecal Analysis

It may not be appealing, but your pet’s excrement can tell us a lot about its health! At Double Oak Mountain Animal Hospital, we can examine your pet’s urine and feces for parasites, infectious diseases, nutrient levels, and more.

Parasites can cause untold damage to your pet’s organs, even if you can’t see them with the naked eye. In most cases, the sooner you detect parasitic infections, the better your pet’s chances of making a full recovery. With one test, we can examine your pet’s fecal matter for unusual intestinal parasites, such as roundworms, tapeworms, whipworms, hookworms, coccidia, and more.  It’s important to get a fecal analysis for your pet at least once a year during their annual checkup.

A urinalysis allows us to test for unusual hormones and enzymes, the presence of crystals, excessive bacteria, as well as the urine’s dilution and concentration--all telling factors in your pet’s wellness.

Infectious Disease Testing

In our laboratory, we can run specific blood tests for infectious diseases. Thyroid hormone levels, phenobarbital levels, and specific antigens can indicate the presence of diseases and parasites. We can test for common but deadly ailments like Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), and Parvovirus.
