Imaging Procedures

Double Oak Mountain Animal Hospital is proud to feature on-site digital radiology (x-ray) and minimally invasive state-of-the-art ultrasound to aid in the diagnosis of many diseases and conditions.

Digital radiology (X-Ray) is one of the most common digital imaging procedures in veterinary practice. X-rays are typically used for imaging bones, foreign objects, and large body cavities. They can help in identifying fractures, tumors, injuries, infections, and deformities. The procedure is typically painless, but sedation can be administered to help your pet stay anxiety-free during the process.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is another common digital imaging procedure, which can be used to diagnose soft-tissue areas that x-rays cannot. It uses ultrasonic sound waves to create images of body structures based on the pattern of echoes reflected from tissues and organs. It can scan abdominal organs, the heart, eyes, and reproductive organs. An ultrasound can evaluate symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, straining to urinate, or urinating blood.  It can also be useful to identify the causes of reproductive abnormalities, unexplained fever, loss of appetite, or weight loss.  Ultrasounds can help detect changes in the shape, size, tissue density, internal structure, and position of organs. Ultrasound is a painless and non-invasive procedure that often compliments radiographs.
